Summary:

A novel that exposes a new and unexplored world

Anne Jacobson had a forbidden romantic encounter with a Hispanic teenager who worked in her parents’ garden. In the eyes of the religious Jewish Hasidic community in which she was raised, this kind of act was unpardonable. She was sent away to a boarding school for girls in Israel, so she wouldn’t harm the chances of her brothers and sisters to find suitable matches.

Based on a real life story

At the dorm, Anne experiences love affairs with a fellow student and the housemother, and also a male teacher who desired her. She escapes, and ends up wandering the streets of Jerusalem, where she is assaulted by teenagers in a mosque. She is taken to the house of a foreign diplomat, where she spends months living an ongoing revelry of control games. When his aging female companion threatens to murder her, Anne courageously escapes the diplomat’s house in an unexpected and dramatic way.

A Pink Pearl is an novel based on the real memories of a member of a famous American Hasidic community. It narrates a coming of age story of female empowerment.

My Thoughts:

A Pink Pearl is a book about one woman’s sexuality and her life because of it.

In America sex is not a taboo subject. Our society is a very sexually charged one. This is not the case everywhere.

There are cultures that treat the subject of sex as taboo. Women are not treated equal and are often thought of as possessions.

The main character in this book is a woman that was exiled from her family as a teenager for having a secret sexual affair with a man. She is a highly sexual woman and the book takes us on a journey of her life and different experiences she has along the way.

Some of those experiences seem far fetched to me but I still could not put this book down. It is considered an erotica book and trust me..there are some VERY explicit sexual scenes.

I read this book in a matter of 2 days. My husband even commented how I was glued to my kindle and asked what I was reading. I didn’t have the heart to tell him giggle.

I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own.

It sounds like a book I want to read. I love reading about the subject. In some societies there are sexual taboos that come into play when people from different cultures have a relationship.
