Between You & Me : Family Journals

In comes Sand Dune, with their Between Me and You family journals. These are a special kind of journal you can gift to a loved one and get back. Alternatively, you can buy one, fill it out and gift it to the loved one you want to connect with better.

Why were Between Me & You Family Journals Created?

“Winston Simmonds Jr. is President/Founder of Sand Dune Publishing LLC and actually created the Between Me and Youā„¢ Relationship Keepsake Journal series as a result of his own desire to have something truly personal and meaningful from his parents. ” As you can imagine, they went over so well, they decided to make a line of the keepsake journals for all to enjoy.

What is so special about the Between Me & You Family Journals?

These help you re-connect with your family members. You get to learn a lot about their thoughts, opinions, experiences and over-all personality. These days, we don’t seem to care enough about others to give them the time of day to go through their history. It’s really not fair. We’ve gotten so wrapped up in our own little worlds, we forget about where we come from and tend to skip over actually bonding in our relationships. Granted, we do ask life questions while dating, however you still can miss a lot. I received the Mom journal, because I actually failed to ask a lot of questions growing up.

I know her past was full of pain and I didn’t want to question a darn thing about it with her. I’m the type of person who figures if they want to tell me something, they will. Otherwise, don’t ask. However, I want to ask and I want to know. I believe the family journal will help her answer my questions, as they do include many I’d love to know and I won’t be upset should she choose to skip an answer. I expect a lot of information on my dad to be excluded, as I know he’s a painful topic to both of us. (They divorced when I was three, and he was basically non-existent from that point on.)

Between You & Me : Family JournalsI took some pictures of the family keepsake journals’ questions and melded them together in the picture above. I wanted all of you to see the types of questions that are asked. Now, I’ll be honest. I’d love to know the memories my mom has of the day I was born. However seeing how she thought I was born on the 16th of October for seven years, I’m not sure how much she’ll actually recall. (Real Birthday, 15th. Didn’t find out until I needed my birth certificate for a school project.)

I am very curious about her memories of my grandmother, as she never mentioned much of her childhood. Of course that also means, she never talked about role models either. I think her opinion on characteristics we share now is most important to me. She tends to put herself down a lot, which is low self-esteem from others always doing it. However, I see a lot of her within myself. As you can imagine, that actually hurts me a lot when she puts herself down. I take it personally. I love her and I don’t like that she has the opinions of herself that she does, but it’s also putting me down at the same time.

I am hoping the family keepsake journal helps put my mother more into perspective for me. I hope she loves writing in it and I am sure I will enjoy reading the answers. I am wanting so many more of these family journals after viewing this one. I am extremely curious about my father, who barely talks and is horrible at communicating. My sister, who has just drifted so far from me, I barely recognize her anymore. Also my eldest niece, I see so much in her that resembles me, and I can see she’s lost. I want the aunt journal for me to give to her. Honestly, I am very likely going to buy a lot of the Between Me and You family journals, as I want one to give my daughter as well.

Relationships are important to me, now more than ever. I have watched some healthy people, suddenly die and I have also been watching family fade in health. It’s a sad realization when you’re thinking to yourself, “I love you, but I barely know you anymore…” I believe the family journals will help re-connect people everywhere.

I think I would really like the REUNION book since we have one every year on my dad’s side of the family and we really don’t know to much about his side it would be nice for the younger generation to be able to look back at this at future reunions and know about the older brothers and sisters.
