It is now officially Summer. Camping is a very popular Summertime activity. Camping can be done different ways. I personally camp in an RV with electricity and all the comforts of home pretty much. To other people camping means getting in touch with nature and sleeping in a tent with no electricity.
When you camp tent style cooking can be tricky. I came across this pdf file of 500 campfire recipes. There are recipes that I had no idea could be made over a camp fire. I’ll be honest and I’ve never actually cooked anything over a camp fire other than hot dogs or making smores.
Some of these recipes are for using a dutch oven. I don’t personally have a dutch oven but I want one. I hear they are great for cooking. I’m sure you can find something on this list that will appeal to anyone no matter their diet or tastes. Of course with any recipe you can add or substitute anything you wish. This just gives you some great ideas to work with.
This file also tells you how to make a Buddy Burner/Vagabond Stove and how to make a cardboard box oven. I had no idea such a thing existed. Here are some general camping tips that are mentioned in the pdf file.
For a quick meal while camping, brown ground beef, add sloppy Joe sauce, and freeze it in a freezer bag. Throw it in the cooler
(it will help keep other food cool too) and then warm it up in a pan over a fire or on a grill. Can also be done with taco meat;
just bring along your shells or tortillas and other desired toppings!
I love the tip of browning ground beef ahead of time and freezing it. The tip says to add your Sloppy Joe sauce to it but I’m sure you can freeze plain browned ground beef for easier cooking as well.
