If you work from home, it is important to have a dedicated workspace. This space doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. I made a home office without spending hardly any money.
A home office does not have to be large. It just has to be a set space where you work and can keep all your supplies within arms reach. I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment. I use to have a work area set up in our dining room. My daughter is an adult now and is out on her own. I turned her bedroom into my office.
#1 Tip: try to reuse things you already have in the house for your office.
The best way to save money on a home office is to repurpose things you already have in the house. For example, I am using the dresser and chest of drawers from my daughter’s childhood bedroom set for storage in my office.
I use to have a HUGE computer desk with a bunch of shelves and drawers I had in the dining room. Unfortunately, it was old and falling apart. The desktop itself was in perfect condition though. My husband is a carpenter and he tore it all apart and made me a customized L-shaped desk that I simply adore!
He also built me a shelf for some of my books and for my stuffed friends. I may be an adult but I still love my stuffed friends!
I have a set of cheap white shelves that were in my daughters closet to help keep her stuff organized as well. I keep my most used items right next to me on those. I have 2 sets of 12×12 Sterlite drawers. One set sits on the shelves and the other set sits on my desk itself. The set on my desk store my very most used items. (extra pens/paper/various electronic cords etc.)
I am constantly reorganizing my office, it drives my poor OCD husband bonkers. I love my office because it’s my own personal space. I can work without disturbing my husband or him disturbing me. If I’m on a phone call or watching a video online, I can simply shut my door. I also love being able to shut my door at the end of the night and not have to look at my office.
The second desk in my office that is smaller, that is where my husband tinkers with his car models when he’s in the mood (which isn’t often). The desk is one I use to use for myself but I quickly outgrew it!
